Staff Engineer (Bilingual—Korean / English)

Radius is a world leader in composites technology development and the design and production of manufacturing equipment for the global aerospace composites industry. We develop technologies for and support production of net-shape composite structures including structural design and analysis, process development, tool design and fabrication. Our focus is on out-of-autoclave, net-shape, composite structures such as RTM and SQRTM.

This position will work closely with product managers and senior engineers to develop sound engineering solutions and develop new technologies in the design, development, and fabrication or Radius equipment. In addition, this position will work on all aspects of composite development and tooling projects. Activities may include manufacturing process parameter definition, ply pattern development, manufacturing order development and documentation, tool design, and related QMS activity.

Includes significant marketing, sales, and project management responsibilities. Represent Radius in a highly professional manner with consideration for customer confidentiality and Radius' corporate interests. Initiative to thrive in a smaller company environment where responsibilities are broad based.

Primary Responsibilities

  • In depth knowledge of all aspects of composites manufacturing technologies used at Radius, specifically resin transfer molding (RTM) and same qualified resin transfer molding (SQRTM).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new technology and innovative approaches to meet customer requirements and produce a functional, practical, and reliable product.
  • Design and simulate equipment and tooling with 2D and 3D modeling software, primarily SolidWorks.
  • Understand the basics of composite structures design and testing well enough to effectively manage design and testing projects.
  • Continuously develop engineering guidelines, policies and procedures that result in effective knowledge capture and transfer.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical aspects, thermal and fluid dynamics as applied to net-shape composite article fabrication.

    Project Management
  • Primary point of contact with customers, especially Korean-speaking. Effectively and professionally manage customer and vendor expectations throughout the project life. Frequent travel required.
  • Accomplish tasks and improve project execution from a financial, technical and schedule perspective.
  • Track budget. Provide timely feedback to team and management regarding profit and loss.
  • Communicate regularly with team members to schedule tasks and resources. Monitor progress while accommodating changing priorities.
  • Consistently demonstrate project management leadership skills, project management discipline and process discipline.
  • Maintain and proactively support QMS documentation.

  • Coordinate sales, marketing, business development and customer relationships with Korean-speaking customers.
  • Prepare and deliver sales presentations to customers, including but not limited to Korean-language customers. Address customer questions related to existing equipment, providing answers or referrals in a professional manner.
  • Clear verbal and written communication with customer to help define a statement of work that will provide a valuable service or product to the customer as well as minimize risk to Radius Engineering from technical, financial and schedule issues.
  • Develop detailed quotations. Clearly communicate scope of work along with anticipated deliverables, required receivables, assumptions, budgets and schedules.
  • Proactively participate in trade shows and conferences interacting with current and potential customers.

  • Near native fluency in Korean and English, both verbal and written.
  • Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline. Advanced degree a plus.
  • Experience with CAD /analysis tools required. SolidWorks highly preferred.
  • Experience in out-of-autoclave composites design/manufacturing environment. Alternate composites experience considered.
  • In-depth understanding of and demonstrated interest in composites/tooling design and composites fabrication.
  • Demonstrated excellent attention to detail. Openly discusses uncertainties. Seeks assistance.
  • Strong desire to work in a smaller company applying broad based skills: engineering design/analysis/support, experimentation, testing, some fabrication.
  • Effective, succinct communication. Team project collaboration skills.
  • High-level, professional conduct; takes ownership of accomplishments, quality and deadlines; takes initiative; makes recommendations.
  • This position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

Develop your engineering skills at one of the “best places to work” in Salt Lake.

We are working on exciting Research & Development projects and are looking for an Intern who can spend 20 – 30 hours / week helping us move these projects forward. Possibility of full-time work during the summer months.

Radius Engineering is a small, high-tech, engineer-to-order firm, supplying R&D and manufacturing equipment to the worldwide aerospace composites industry.


Specific responsibilities are yet to be determined, depending on which project is the best fit for your skill set. In all cases, you will participate as part of a highly skilled engineering team to develop sound engineering solutions, new technologies and innovative ideas.

  • SolidWorks/computer skills: ability to read, interpret and create engineering drawings, including bill of materials, in SolidWorks; a good working knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Interest in and basic understanding of composites fabrication.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • The ability to think and work independently. Self-managing.
  • On-track to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.
