Programs Manager at Radius Engineering

Position Summary

Our Programs Manager will define, coordinate, manage, and implement Radius’ technical/engineering programs in composites/aerospace design to ensure projects are professionally managed and to support the achievement of strategic objectives. This is a challenging opportunity to carry out core business activities, including technology development (R&D), business development, project management, and continual improvement initiatives across multiple business processes.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Radius management team to identify and lead strategic business and product initiatives, such as the development of new products and engineering technologies, and internal R&D initiatives.
  • Develop plans for new and strategic market opportunities in coordination with business development, end customers, and product managers. Provide leadership to meet objectives.
  • Support business development: meet with customers, understand their business goals and technical requirements, support the development of proposals and pricing to successfully obtain contracts.
  • Evaluate internal project performance (financial and schedule) with stake holders; identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead implementation of continual improvement initiatives within Radius business, project management and QMS processes to realize positive and profitable change.
  • Manage individual projects, particularly those of large, complex, and/or strategically important scopes of work to profitable and technical success, and highest customer satisfaction.
  • Support, guide, and train project managers to realize success within individual projects in the role of manager and mentor.
  • Help lead interdepartmental sales coordination and technology integrations for multi-product workcell opportunities.
  • Conduct and present program reviews to management.
  • Proactively coordinate with Engineering and Production managers to obtain resources for both program and R&D efforts.
  • Manage program schedules to accommodate changing priorities.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in a relevant technical discipline. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in project and/or program management within a technical and regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated high level of professional maturity, role-modeling dynamic leadership behavior: initiative, self-motivation and self-direction, relationship building and team player, creative.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal, written, presentations) in business and technical settings.
  • Ability to discuss and present complex issues systematically, succinctly, logically and confidentially.
  • Demonstrated abilities in team building, leadership, and implementing organizational change.
  • Proactive, superior attention to detail. Solid organizational skills.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects of varying complexities.
  • At ease and skilled with MS Office including Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Project. CAD/SolidWorks a plus.

Composite Development and Tooling Engineer - Experienced

Responsible for all aspects of composite development and tooling projects: planning, design, technical analysis, some hands-on, and managing scope, cost, delivery and customer expectations. Activities may include manufacturing process parameter definition, ply pattern development, manufacturing order development and documentation, tool design, and related QMS activity. High level project management responsibilities. Initiative to thrive in a smaller company environment where responsibilities are broad based.

Radius is a world leader in composites technology development, and the design and production of manufacturing equipment for the global aerospace composites industry. We develop technologies for and support production of net-shape composite structures including structural design and analysis, process development, tool design and fabrication. Our focus is on out-of-autoclave, net-shape, composite structures such as RTM and SQRTM.

Primary Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Primary point of contact with customers. Effectively manage customer and vendor expectations throughout the project life. Manage project scope.
  • Accomplish tasks and improve our project execution from a financial, technical and schedule perspective.
  • Track budget. Provide timely feedback to team and management regarding profit and loss.
  • Communicate regularly with team members to schedule tasks and resources. Monitor progress while accommodating changing priorities.
  • Consistently demonstrate project management leadership skills, project management discipline and process discipline.
  • Maintain and proactively support QMS documentation.
Engineering
  • In depth knowledge of all Radius composite manufacturing processes & alternate processes.
  • Create process development plans: identify and minimize risks. Optimize production.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and document detailed composite manufacturing process instructions.
  • Understand the basics of composite structures design and testing well enough to effectively manage design and testing projects.
  • Hands-on customer support off-site, as well as throughout all phases of the in-house development process.
  • Demonstrated ability to design prototype and production SQRTM and RTM tooling and equipment using SolidWorks.
  • Continuously develop engineering guidelines, policies and procedures that result in effective knowledge capture and transfer.
  • Understanding of mechanical aspects, thermal and fluid dynamics as applied to net-shape composite article fabrication.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop design of experiments to resolve issues or identify opportunities to develop new/alternative processing solutions.
Marketing
  • Explain Radius Engineering capabilities and how these capabilities can benefit the customer.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with the customer to help define a statement of work that will provide a valuable service or product to the customer as well as minimize risk to Radius Engineering from technical, financial and schedule issues.
  • Develop detailed quotations. Clearly communicate scope of work along with anticipated deliverables, required receivables, assumptions, budgets and schedules.
  • Continually improve the content of our marketing literature.
  • Proactively participate in trade shows and conferences interacting with current and potential customers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in a related engineering discipline. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years experience in out-of-autoclave composites design/manufacturing environment. Alternate composites experience considered.
  • In-depth understanding of and demonstrated interest in composites/tooling design and composites fabrication.
  • Experience with CAD /analysis tools required. SolidWorks highly preferred.
  • Clear skills to develop out-of-autoclave manufacturing processing including ply pattern definition, lay-up/tool assembly instructions, injection and cure parameter definition.
  • Strong desire to work in a smaller company applying broad based skills: engineering design/analysis/support, experimentation, testing, some fabrication.
  • Effective, succinct communication. Team project collaboration skills. Skilled use of WebEx or Skype.
  • High-level, professional conduct. Mentor and role model to less experienced engineers, and technicians.

Composite Development and Tooling Engineer – Junior Position

Project management training depending on level of experience. Initiative to thrive in a smaller company environment where responsibilities are broad based. Must have a keen interest in developing skills, working alongside and supporting more experienced engineers.

We develop technologies for and support production of net-shape composite structures including structural design and analysis, process development, tool design and fabrication. Our focus is on out-of-autoclave, net-shape, composite structures.

Primary Position Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support on projects as assigned. Consult with senior staff on approach; work independently to develop solutions to design, material and processing problems relating to composites manufacturing.
  • Learn all aspects of composites manufacturing technologies used at Radius, specifically RTM and SQRTM. Develop a thorough understanding of material forms, processing conditions and their effects on part quality and performance.
  • Create and maintain complete and well-written documentation. Provide timely and clear communications with staff and customers. Develop processing documentation, reports, CAD data, etc.
  • Support and implement all QMS procedures.
  • Investigate and determine optimum processing parameters for composite part fabrication by consulting both product literature and material manufacturers for processing and material information. Frequent hands-on involvement of prototyping, part fabrication and process development.
  • Design prototype and production tooling and equipment to support composite development projects meeting process conditions and loads consistent with industry standards and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline is required. Preferably BSME or BS Materials Engineering. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience in out-of-autoclave composites design/manufacturing environment. Alternate composites experience considered.
  • Basic to in-depth understanding of and demonstrated interest in composites/tooling design and composites fabrication.
  • Experience with CAD /analysis tools required. SolidWorks highly preferred.
  • Clear skills or potential to develop out-of-autoclave manufacturing processing including ply pattern definition, lay-up/tool assembly instructions, injection and cure parameter definition.
  • Strong desire to work in a smaller company: engineering design/analysis/support and strong focus on technical, hands-on work (experimentation, testing, some technician type fabrication work).
  • Effective, succinct communication. Team project collaboration skills. Skilled use of WebEx or Skype.
  • US Citizenship or Green Card required.
